Miss Russia is the annual national beauty pageant to select the representatives of Russia to Miss Universe and Miss World. It has been held since 1992 to date (except 1994, 2000 & 2008). The pageant has produced 4 winners in international pageants including Yelena Rogozhina (Miss Europe 1999); Oxana Fedorova (Miss Universe 2002); Svetlana Koroleva (Miss Europe 2002) and Ksenia Sukhinova (Miss World 2008). In 1992, Russia won its first Miss World title with Julia Kourotchkina, however she was not the part of Miss Russia pageant.

Miss Russia has sent many beautiful young Russian women to many regional and international beauty pageants. It has produced a Miss Universe (2002), a Miss World (2008) and two Miss Europe(s) (1999 & 2002). Russia made its very first debut as an independent nation in Miss World 1992 by sending Julia Kourotchkina. She won the coveted title of Miss World and brought the very first Miss World title to Russia.
Russia debuted in Miss Universe in 1994 when the pageant held in Manila, Philippines. Inna Zobova, an international Russian model was sent to Manila. She placed 12th overall. Neither of them (Julia and Inna) were the official "Miss Russia" titleholders. Yulia Alekseeva was the official delegate of Russia in Miss Universe 1995 held in Windhoek, Namibia and she placed 12th overall. In 1996, Ilmira Shamsutdinova was the official delegate of Russia in Miss Universe. She was also the first runner-up in Miss International 1993 and 4th runner-up in Miss Europe 1995. In the pageant, she made the cut and placed 4th overall.
The official Miss Russia to compete in Miss Universe was Anna Baitchik (Miss Russia 1993). She competed in Miss Universe 1997 and placed 46th overall. In 1998, Anna Malova made the Top 10 semifinalists in Miss Universe. Alexandra Petrova, Miss Russia 1996 was sent to Miss Universe 1999 in Trinidad & Tobago. Oxana Fedorova (Miss Russia 2001) won the title of Miss Universe 2002 in Puerto Rico. She has been the first Miss Universe of Russia. No official "Miss Russia" competed again until 2006, when Tatiana Kotova went to both Miss Universe and Miss World pageants.
In 2008, Ksenia Sukhinova (Miss Russia 2007) won the title of Miss World. She should represent Russia in Miss Universe 2008, too. However, she withdrew the pageant due to her studies and her 2nd runner-up Vera Krasova replaced her. Vera became 3rd runner-up in Miss Universe 2008. In the past three years, the official winner of Miss Russia will compete in Miss Universe or Miss World.

And finally, here is the new Miss Russia Elizaveta Golovanova of Smolensk. She will represent Russia in Miss World 2012; and if she did not win in the pageant, she would also compete in Miss Universe 2012.
